As a transplant from Georgia to Minnesota, one cold winter in the garage was enough.

I was surprised last year at how MANY of my garage chemicals froze in their containers last year.

Well freeze no more! $100 on list-of-craigs for the furnace, 2.5x that for install gear, and I’ll be in business for the winter.

Of course now you’ve set yourself down the rabbit hole of insulating your garage...

Never underestimate a MN winter.

Where in MN are you? Twin Cities?

I feel like there are a ton of Oppos who live around here. We should do a safe meet up at some point.

I’m going to give you some advice here that I suggest you heed.

Look up the term “ ice dam” Prepare your carhole*  appropriately to avoid creating one on the roof.  Then keep an eye on it.  That means going out in - to --- temps to deal with the issues before it gets bad.

Heating my garage is one of the better things I’ve done to the house for sure. If yours isn’t insulated, look into that too - makes a huge difference.

Oh my I know. Somehow my neighbors with similar layouts are using heaters 3x as big without insulation without issue, but my Menards cart is full of insulation and drywall for the whole garage.

Just easier to run the gas, power and exhaust before sealing up the walls.

No but I imagine worth every penny for the one time it's really needed

That all sounds well and good.  Maybe do a smoke test to check for leaks.  They more than anything are the cause and suck to find once everything is covered up.

I haven’t done smoke but I’ve sealed up every nook, cranny and wiring pass through for exterior lighting I could find.

New seals on garage door, thresholds adjusted, everything I can do to stop drafts

Fair enough, no need to overthink it.

This is usually a house issue where heat and water are present in large amounts. Mainly wanted to place a wedge in your mind to look at the sides you don’t drive up to or walk past.

Probably won’t even snow this Winter!

Luckily it’s just studded out, so even if I only add insulation this year without drywall I’ll be OK
